Laburnum is a rabbit from Cowslip's warren. They are an artist, as they made the shape of El-ahrairah out of stones. They are mentioned by Strawberry when he shows Hazel the Shape. Their name in Lapine is translated as "Poison Tree," and it is mentioned that putting "poison" in a name is un-rabbitlike. Their art depicting El-ahrairah is seen as old-fashioned because the rabbits in Cowslip's warren do not use the skills of cunning and survival exemplified by the rabbit hero.

Miniseries

Laburnum is mentioned by Strawberry when she shows Hazel and Fiver the Shape, in this version a large glowing crystal. This crystal is seen again later when three does are chanting praise to Lord Frith.

• Though it is mentioned that a rabbit named "Poison" is very unusual, several other characters are named after plants that are poisonous to rabbits, including Holly, Bluebell, and Nightshade.
